California Fire Fit has definitely paved the way towards preparing me to attain my life long dream of becoming a firefighter. My mentor Cliff Walker has lead me towards accomplishing my goals for fitness and getting hired as a Federal Firefighter. I'm a 10 year active duty Navy Veteran with a total of 16 years of military service and continue to serve our country in the US Navy Reserves. While attending Miramar College Fire Technology Program and working a full time job California Fire Fit helped me by tailoring a fitness program and also laying out what I needed to do to increase my chances for getting hired. From waking up early in the morning for morning workouts to sitting down with me and helping me with my resume and pointing out all the extra details I needed to do to increase my chances of getting hired. California Fire Fit workouts definitely helped me pass my CPAT test in Orange County, California. California Fire Fit set up Firefighter Combat Challenge workouts that almost mirrored what I needed to do to pass my CPAT test which directly resulted in my outstanding results and passing score. I'm currently station on the island of Oahu and continue to live the California Fire Fit lifestyle as a Federal Firefighter.
In 2016, I was in the process of leaving Active Duty Navy to achieve my goal of becoming a Fire Fighter. I was stationed in San Diego as a helicopter pilot. I really enjoyed my time on Active Duty but was ready to transition to civilian life to spend more time with my family. I met Cliff at the NAS North Island Gym in the Spring of 2016. I was training for an upcoming physical test for the Maui County Fire Dept. I asked him a few questions and right away I could tell that Cliff was fired up about his career as a fire fighter and life itself! Bottom line Cliff went out of his way to invite me to train with him. We pulled dummies, dragged hose, ran stairs, completed ocean swims, and did anything that would set me up for success. Needless to say my physical test went incredibly smooth largely due to the workouts I did with Cliff. Not only did he help prepare me physically but mentally he gave me an edge. We talked about the fire fighter interview process, academy life, and what to expect as a fire fighter online. He helped set me up for success and he became a good friend of mine in the process. I was lucky enough to get hired by Maui County and I have to say that it’s one of the best things that has happened to me. Training with Cliff gave me the confidence to know how hard I could push myself when challenged, and that helped me to finish the Fire Academy with a great standing in the class! Now as a fire fighter it’s always great to catch up with Cliff and talk about those days that we pushed hard in training to get better everyday!
